Millions of African children have never had any dental care and don’t even own a toothbrush! Poor oral hygiene has been shown to increase the risk of cancer, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and HIV progression. AAI brings high quality dental care to the children of Guinea absolutely free. We also distribute thousands of toothbrushes and basic dental supplies to families in Conakry through our free clinics, as well as educational material to aid families in incorporating dental hygiene into their lives. In addition to making smiles brighter, toothbrushes aid in better oral health, which then has a direct positive impact on both overall health, and self esteem. Our dental program in Guinea is overseen by Dr. Mohamed Camara, a highly regarded local dentist with many years of both professional experience as well as dental coordinator for the Mercy Ships program in Guinea.
Our next dental clinic is scheduled for February 2015, when we aim to treat more than 500 patients and distribute at least 1000 dental kits with educational material. The cost of treatment per patient in the AAI program is only $27!!
