Economic Development Program
MORE THAN JUST CHARITY
African Aid International works with local small business owners and individual entrepreneurs by helping them develop their businesses so they can become self-sufficient. Starting a business requires a small loan that traditional banks will not provide to individuals without collateral, creating a vicious cycle that traps many families in poverty. We provide small loans to finance local start-ups as well as strategic assistance and financing for family businesses seeking to expand. As local businesses grow, they employ more locals, who can in turn support their own families. By spreading economic success and promoting financial self-sufficiency, we aim to help entire communities to escape the poverty trap.
The famous 12th century philosopher Maimonides lists eight progressive levels of charity;
“The best and greatest type of charity is to help sustain a person before they become poor by offering a substantial gift or loan in a dignified manner, or by helping them find employment or establishing themselves in business so that they do not need to become dependent on others…..”
This is the aim of our Economic Development Program – to help grow local businesses to the point where they are supporting others, and not depending on aid themselves. Your donation will directly help lift a family out of poverty in a dignified and respectable way!
